Self Portraits

So a while back I decided to have some fun… I hand painted a new background and just had to test it out ASAP!

Here I used natural light to do a beauty styled photoshoot for myself, there are several challenge that come with self portraiture but I am so happy with how these photos came out. I am also so in love with the backdrop that I brought it with me to the United Kingdom when I moved and now I can wait do use it again.

Lavender Mini-Session – Bodenstein Family

I have had the pleasure to photograph the Bodenstein Family for three years, they are such lovely people always happy and ready to try new and fun things, so naturally when they contacted me to book the lavender mini session I was beyond excited to see them again, especially in this crazy beautiful lavender field.

I love seen how a family grows over the years and having the privilege to capture them as they grow each year is such an honour for me.

Lavender Mini-Session – Carter Family

I am absolutely crazy about spring and last year I found a beautiful little lavender farm on the outskirts of Stellenbosch, South Africa. I knew I had to do some photoshoots here before it became time to harvest the flowers, so I ran a lavender mini session special and it was just the best time ever. Every time I came home from a photoshoot here I was covered in the scent of lavender.

The Carter family was my last photoshoot in Cape Town and it was so much fun, and adorable little family.

Couples Session – Rebecca & Adam

What can I say about Rebecca and Adam… Just WOW.

I had such a wonderful time with Rebecca and her husband Adam. They were absolutely amazing, braving the cold weather with me and making just the most adorable couple.

I know cold weather can be a bit daunting for a photoshoot however it can be so much fun on a couples photoshoot as it is such a great excuse to cuddle up with you loved one and get some great cozy photos.

Wedding

I could barely wait to share these photos of this beautiful wedding with you.

I had the amazing opportunity to second shoot on this beautiful outdoors wedding, as nervous as I was to take part in my first wedding shoot I couldn’t wait to get shooting at weddings and I was more than happy wit the outcome of the photos. I learnt so much from just this one day and continue to assist and second shoot so I can learn as much as possible and I have helped out on a few weddings since. I have also decided to start shooting weddings myself and am hoping to share one of my own wedding shoots with you shortly, so keep an eye out.

I had so much fun both shooting and editing these image and can’t wait for winter to come to an end now and wedding season to take hold.

Hoping you like my work, for more I am on Facebook at Nikita VdV Photography or check out my website at Nikita VdV Photography.

Birthday Celebration

I am so please to have been part of this lovely day, spent at the Ostrich Ranch. The day started off with everyone meeting at the ranch and having a stroll in and around the little souvenir shops, followed by quick group photos before a guided tour around the inner part of the ranch. Where we were shown the skeletal structure of an ostrich, the size of their eggs, compared to other bird eggs.

Then everyone got to pet and feed some of the ostrich’s, as well as meeting the ostrich that holds the world record for been the worlds smallest ostrich. then if you wanted to you could have a sit on one  of the tamer ostriches, as the birthday girl did. Followed by drinks, celebrations and a great meal prepared by the ostrich ranches restaurant.

This was both an educational and relaxing day spent celebrating in a slightly different way.

This was also my first time using my new 50mm f1.8 lens Nikkor lens, that I had been just dying to use and the results are better than I was expecting, it didn’t take long to become my favourite lens.

Sheeba

Here she is, Sheeba 10 week old puppy, Max’s little sister (Max, last week’s post) at her first Doggie shoot.

After  she had a good sniff around my studio and wondering off every now and then, she sat just long enough between treats for me to take photos of  her and after she had her fill she started to get sleepy (just like her brother) and I got some lovely photos of her getting comfy and eventually falling into a well deserved slumber.

This beautiful blue eyed girl is a true model, well as long as you have treats to bribe her with. She has been on several photoshoots, including having taken part in a winter wonderland kiddies clothing shoot for a UK clothing company.

Max

10 Week old puppy Max’s first photoshoot. This handsome young husky’s photoshoot came just before christmas, I set up and decorated a christmas tree for him to pull down and he was well suited to the job, before I could even pick up my camera he was already pulling at the tree and I had just managed to take one photo and down came the tree.

He had an absolute blast and fell asleep half way through the shoot, thats when I manages to get a santa hat on him just long enough to get a few photos and then he was back at it. After a well deserved rest for Max we removed all the chewable props and he sat nicely for some puppy portrait shots.

Keep an eye out for his little sisters photoshoot coming next week.

Month Old – Liam

This is Little Liam at one month, looking back now I can’t believe how fast time has gone by, this little man has already started walking around and developed a liking for popcorn.

This was his very first photoshoot and he wasn’t very sure of me (the stranger in the house) at the time and didn’t like the flash going off at all but he has had two shoots since then and he had no problems at all. In fact he is well on his way to becoming a model , always laughing, smiling and looking directly at the camera for me, unless there’s popcorn to be eaten, hehe.
